Gamecocks Football Recruiting Notes to Note: 3/10/12

Here are some South Carolina Football recruiting notes to note…

Goose Creek (S.C.) wide receiver Tramel Terry has given his verbal to Georgia. The Gamecocks had hoped they could state their case on why he should be a Gamecock.  USC will not give up but it will be tough to turn him.

Fork Union (Va.) quarterback Christian Hackenberg has given his pledge to Penn State so he is off the board for USC.  They will keep in contact but don’t expect him to turn nor USC to invest a lot in him from this point forward.

With quarterback Christian Hackenberg committing to Penn State, the South Carolina staff will turn their attention to Wayne Hills (N.J.) star Kevin Olsen, the younger brother of Carolina Panthers tight end Gregg Olsen. The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder is expected to be on campus this spring.

Another quarterback that USC will now pursue is Connor Mitch from North Carolina. He will be at USC on March 31, the Gamecocks’ next junior day. He has offers from the likes of: Wake Forest, East Carolina, NC State, North Carolina, Syracuse, West Virginia, South Florida, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Rutgers. He does not have favorites and plans to make a decision by the end of the summer or early into his season. Mitch said he’s looking for one thing from a school he might choose. “Coaching stability is important,” he said. Last season, Mitch passed for 3900 yards and 51 touchdowns.

USC became one of the newest offers for DB Von Bell (6-1 190) of Rossville, GA. Bell is a highly regarded safety who had 6 interceptions last season. His offer list also includes Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Maryland, Ole Miss, UCLA, Auburn and Oklahoma State.

DL Joe Fennell (6-4 310) of Fort Myers, FL has offers from Clemson, USC, Georgia, Florida State, Florida, South Florida, Indiana and Illinois. He named USC, Clemson and Georgia as his top three in no order.

Sophomore WR Blake Bone (6-4 170) of Woodruff landed a offer from USC. Bone was an all-state performer last season after totaling 60 catches for 1057 yards and 10 touchdowns.

DE Garrett Sickels of Little Silver, NJ and TE Adam Breneman of Camp Hill, PA both committed to Penn State recently.  USC was among their other offers.

OL Alan Knott (6-5 270) of Sandy Creek, GA says USC and North Carolina are his two favorites at this point.
