Gamecocks Recruiting Update: Dixon Boys and Townsend

Big week for South Carolina Gamecocks recruiting due to looming decisions being made public.  The Dixon boys of Rock Hill are expected to make their college choice known on Tuesday and then this weekend Lateek Townsend of Marlboro County plans to announce his decision at the Army All-American Game.

The Rock Hill City Hall, as part of a ceremony honoring the city’s standout high school players, will be the stage where DE Gerald Dixon of South Pointe and DL Gerald Dixon Jr. of Northwestern make it known that they will be Gamecocks.  All fingers point to them wearing the “garnet and black” in 2011.

As for Townsend, a highly targeted recruit for USC, he too is highly likely to say he is going to be a Gamecock.  If you read my interview with Sporting News, indications are he will choose SC over Clemson, Florida, LSU and Southern Cal.  If USC can close the deal on Lateek…well it could be huge as he could easily step into the two-deep roster in 2011 right off the bat.

Three other recruits are reportly leaning towards choosing the Gamecocks this week – DB Marcquis Roberts and TE Rory Anderson of Powder Springs, GA and DB Sheldon Royster of Jersey City.  Not sold on Royster as he has been back and forth of late.  I hope he, along with Roberts, can see that the USC secondary needs them.

It’s shaping up to be a fun week for recruiting so make sure to check back soon.
