The South Carolina Gamecocks have landed Devante Covington.
The three-star defensive end out of Rockingham (NC) Richmond County chose USC over offers from schools like Tennessee, NC State, Clemson, Georgia Tech and others. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder is solid with his choice to be a future Gamecock.
At the recent Shrine Bowl combine in Asheville, Covington ran a 4.65 40-yard dash and a 4.26 in the 20-yard shuttle. He also registered a 29-inch vertical and benched pressed 185 11 times.
In his junior year, he had eight sacks. He seems to be just the right type of defensive end for USC as he has room to grow.
This young man is the eighth verbal commitment of the 2013 football recruiting cycle for the Gamecocks.
Welcome Mr. Covington.
